Shake, Rattle and Roll eNews is circulated exclusively to
test engineers and managers involved in vibration test and hopes to bring
you some useful technical snippets gleaned from around the world and from
around the vibration test industry. We always look forward to your inputs,

m+p's
view of the future...........
The weekend of 20
April was the time of the annual international sales meeting for m+p
international, based in a hotel near the head office in Hanover,
sales and development staff from all over the world joined in
discussions of markets, new products and pricing. Of course as you
would expect these detailed technical discussions went on late into
the night huddled round a table in the bar .........!!?
Interesting tit bits for your delectation
coming from this meeting include:
Temperature
control... New software and processing
equipment to provide a single PC for the control of multiple
Environmental cabinets. For those labs who use many different
types of chamber for Temperature, Humidity or other environmental
tests we will be bringing out a software suite to control
chambers from almost any manufacturer in addition to control of
ancillary test equipment............sounds interesting ????? let
us know.
Acoustic Control..... Fascinating
stuff this, using high level noise to test the effect of
acoustically induced vibration in aerospace structures. We now
have a fully digital controller using proper octave band control
filters, digital sliders with position storage for repeat tests,
reference control up to kHz with natural roll off to 10KHz with
multi-horn control. We also include automatic drop out of
microphones going bad so no danger of bad data, if they recover we
take them back in....... clever stuff. If you are in this business
and want to get more out of your chamber let us know............
Continuous Data Acquisition....
There are many companies out there who want to
capture data over months or even years, for these people here is a
solution that will take continuous, not just intervals, but real
continuous data over as long as you like. With large channel
counts, variable storage strategies, alarms on each channel that
can send emails or even text messages to your mobile if things go
bad, this is an incredible package...... want to monitor a
factory full of machines, this is for you......
VibRecorder.....
Throughput data capture taken to a new level. Need to capture long
time histories during your vibration test, on lots of measurement
channels, we have the ideal solution. The VibRecorder data is
file based for each test run and fully compatible with our Sine
and Random Reduction applications for easy post test analysis, it
can even be used with SmartOffice (or other applications) for
further advanced processing. VibRecorder uses the most advanced
throughput technology to hard disk to capture data almost
indefinitely, hardware that supports active change over of hard
disks so as one fills up, unplug it and add another... a must for
you high channel labs needing state of the art performance
........
Universities
hit the jackpot !!!!
A strong discussion point of our meeting was how
to develop and assist the engineering of the future, of many ideas
put forward one was easily put in place and so active immediately we
can offer all UK Universities a 50% discount on our
software list prices.
This means our highly advanced SmartOffice
package with data import filters for access to numerous data capture
systems, network licences, Full modal analysis, Rotating Machinery
analysis, Data Acquisition, Real time analysis, Operating Deflection
Shapes, Geometry set up and the best export of active graphs and
modes to Word or PowerPoint you have ever seen... is all available
for Universities from just over £1,000................ don't all
rush at once..........................no please do!
To download a time limited copy of SmartOffice to
try those great export graphs visit our development website

keys can be generated online.
Upcoming events...... Short notice but better late
than never........
The Society of Environmental
Engineers have a one day Seminar and table top exhibition coming up
on Thursday 2nd May at BAE Systems, Plymouth. The subject matter is
'The use of vibration and mechanical shock in stress screening &
life testing'.
For more details and to book in for the seminar
Please contact
SEE 01763 271209
We will be there showing off with our
SmartOffice and VibControl products.
Interesting
Websites.......
We have found several
more websites that may be of interest to you or a colleague -
don't keep them secret, pass them around ...
http://www.efunda.com/home.cfm
Maths, engineering data, mechanical engineering and
other resources, a monster on-line reference book. A subscription
is required but you get a free on-line trial - definitely worth a
look.
www.ukas.org Test
lab directory of all UKAS approved facilities with a good search
engine.
http://assist.daps.mil/
The joys of "freedom of information" - this
US site provides downloads of all standards, it's well worth
getting their free registration although much is available
without. Searching is a bit hit and miss unless you have document
numbers but it's all there ...
Of course
the best is
www.mpiuk.co.uk download our
VibSliderule and a demo version of our SmartOffice e-reporter
software.
Thought for the day ........ ' Be thankful for
problems. If they were less difficult, someone with less ability
might have your job.'...............
Wrapping it up........
Well that
brings to a close this edition of Shake Rattle and Roll, if
there are items of info you would like to see here or if you
have useful tips for the rest of the environmental test world
then please send us your pointers and we'll include them in the
next edition.
