Shake, rattle and roll
News letter back issues - number 8

Shake, Rattle and Roll eNews is circulated exclusively to test engineers and managers involved in vibration test and hopes to bring you some useful technical snippets gleaned from around the world and from around the vibration test industry. We always look forward to your inputs, please send us your views to mpi.news@mpiuk.co.uk

Welcome to the latest edition of the m+p international Newsletter, Shake Rattle and Roll ...

Since the beginning of 2002 we have been busy putting the final touches to several new and very advanced software packages.  In addition we have also been enhancing many of our existing programmes to improve ease of use, speed, better graphic interfaces and better utilities for our customers.  Many of these have been as a result of customer comments, living up to our 'listens to customers....' logo.

New and Enhanced Software:

Unlimited time Road Load (simulation) software - A technique that has eluded many for years, an effective method of controlling the replication of recorded track or time data in a continuous closed control loop.  All this and an unlimited time of testing.

The New unlimited time replication software has two very important steps.

 Firstly the ultra-flexible editor:

This allows the import of almost any raw data signal, including RPC3 and ASCII, that can then be viewed in Acceleration, Velocity, Displacement or Spectra graphs.  Single point editing or signal clipping, band pass filtering, signal length selection are all valuable tools included in the editor.  Selection commands allow elimination dead spots and wasted time and append commands mean different files can to be easily joined to produce complex test signals.  All this in a user friendly interface that shows the original and modified signals at all times.  The most important fact of course is the ability to deal with very large sample files and any sample frequency.

Second step is the test phase, using highly advanced continuous update control loops and the now well known VibControl user interface, control is set up simply and applied with speed and finesse. A single file can be repeated without gaps any number of times to build up required test times.  Measurement channels, data storage, test reporting, user selectable views are all standard functions of the VibControl software.

As with our other systems the Simulator can be used in conjunction with the test sequencer software for the control of highly advanced and complex sequences requiring loops and multiple surfaces.

Transient Capture - The new Transient Capture software includes full trigger set up with rising or falling slope selection, level commands, sampling rate selection, pre or post trigger delay selection and use of multiple measurement channels.

Once captured the signal can be displayed with all the usual benefits of the VibControl software, however the most important and valuable facility with this new software is the Reference Overlay function for both Classical Shock and SRS test specifications.  For shock testing this provides the overlay of Mil-Std, BS, IEC or user selectable limits, gone are the days of printing transient shocks captured from scopes and overlaying limits printed on acetate!.  Now it can all be presented in professional report with logo's test levels, cursors and any other annotation required.

VibControl Remote Warning System -  For all those test facilities who test overnight and depend on the tests completing on time, you no longer need an engineer sitting by the system or making midnight trips to work.  As part of our enhancements to the sequencing software we can now provide a system that will send you an email telling you when the system aborts for any reason.  Since these days email can be to a PC or phone you don't even have to stay home.

Other Product News

SmartOffice - The success of this most powerful and flexible product is spreading.  A complete solution available in modular form.  Tasks from advanced report generation with active graphs and modal animations that can be exported to Word documents for your customers or engineers to use with Cursors, Scalings etc., complete control of project data handling from almost any source.  This is a superb way of bringing together the multitude of different systems that reside in 95% of facilities.

Noise, Vibration and Modal Analysis - SmartOffice expands to offer full analysis of Noise and Vibration data captured by various hardware front ends from Agilent VXI to DAT/AIT recorders of many types.  Data storage can also be handled by SmartOffice direct to the hard disk of a PC, or if captured on tape the digital data can be analysed after the event.  This huge flexibility makes it a perfect compliment to many existing hardware systems already in use in labs but offers increased power of use.

Modal analysis is another function with full geometry set up and animation control.

All of these tasks are supported by simple to use wizards to help the experienced and new engineers alike.

Wrapping it up........

One Final point, the new thought for a day item - 'You can live to be a hundred if you give up all the things that make you want to live to be a hundred'   -   Woody Allen .   How true..........
