 1. Clearing the fog of uncertainties.
 =============================================
 The SEE "Evaluation of the performance uncertainties of climatic test
 chambers" seminar was very informative and packed with some very
 practical advice on handling uncertainties in general. A topic that
 will be very familiar to any UKAS or aspiring UKAS labs out there.

 A booklet called "A beginner's guide to uncertainty of measurement" by
 Stephanie Bell of NPL is a highly recommended must have. See here.

(or give Stephanie a call at NPL tel 020 8977 3222).

 Copies of the seminar (9/10/2001) papers are well worth a look
 and can be purchased from:-

http://www.environmental.org.uk

 2. A new way of becoming a chartered engineer.
 =====================================================================
 Did you know that the SEE is now a "nominated body"? This means
 that your CEng (amongst others) can be obtained through SEE membership.
 If not already join now.

 3. Training course ideas
 =====================================================================
 We have had several requests for ideas on training opportunities.
 Here are a few interesting ones that you may not have seen:-

 ETIC - 1 to 4 days on environmental vibration test from a highly
 experienced and entertaining practitioner:

http://freespace.virgin.net/eddy.weir/

 Learn at your own pace from the Equipment Reliability Institute:

http://www.vibrationandshock.com/distance.htm

 "Vibration Measurements by Laser Techniques" seminar and conference:

http://www.aivela.org

 NAFEMS, the FEM Association have a number of seminars and courses the
 next being "Basics of Stress" in March:

http://www.nafems.org/events/index.html

 Cape run seminars on specific test program requirements (the last one
 related to the Airbus A380). Contact
mailto:peter.norwood@cape-eng.co.uk
 or
www.cape-eng.co.uk

 and of course Cranfield University short courses (linked to the SEE
 professional development program):

http://www.cranfield.ac.uk/soe/cpd/ems1.htm

 and ISVR, Southampton have a number too:

http://www.isvr.soton.ac.uk/jan2000/teaching2.htm

 4. Dates for your diaries
 =====================================================================
 EIS Instrumentation, Analysis & Testing Exhibition
 This specialised and well attended event is at the Heritage Motor
 Centre, Gaydon (J12/M40) on Wednesday 6th March, 10:00 - 16:00.

 There is a technical seminar session starting at 11:00 and the
 best bit is it's all free - see you there.

http://www.e-i-s.org.uk/

 The annual ISMA Noise and Vibration Engineering Conference
 will be held in Leuven (Belgium) from 16 to 18 September 2002.

 5. Getting hold of standards
 =====================================================================
 Finding copies of standards can be difficult and we are not the
 only section of the engineering community that finds this. Try

http://www.engineeringtalk.com/indexes/resources.html for a list
 of sources. Also a good suggestion made was to try your local
 library who may have (or can get) standards on CD from which relevant
 sections can be copied.

 DEF STAN & MIL STD downloads
http://www.mpiuk.co.uk/links.htm#specs

 6. Free download - new slides for VibSlideRule calculator.
 =====================================================================
 As well as the sine frequency/acceleration/velocity/displacement
 calculator, VibSlideRule V2.0 now has PSD<->GRMS, Shock, Log
 ratio/dB and Error ratio/dB calculators all using the unique
 "sliderule" data entry and display.
 Free download at
http://www.mpiuk.co.uk/vibsliderule.htm

 Another one to try with an interesting accelerometer FAQ section:
 http://www.wilcoxon.com/knowdesk_calculator.cfm

 7. VibControl - What's new in V2.6?
 =====================================================================
 The m+p VibControl software continues to keep pace with the
 most exacting vibration test requirements and test productivity
 needs. The latest release of V2.6 brings some very useful
 features that are available free of charge to our VCplus
 contract holders. See: -

http://www.mpiuk.co.uk/request_app_note.htm

 8. SMART OFFICE - New Free Trial download.
 ======================================================================
 The latest build of our SmartOffice eReporter is available on CD and
 from
http://www.mm-corporation.com

 If you are looking for an easy to use noise and vibration
 project database that can share data with other programs and
 around your company, an automated reporting tool, a full modal
 analysis solution or a high performance noise and vibration data
 acquisition system then try this out now for free.

 9. Back issues
 ======================================================================
 To many interesting topics to list so please see:
