Shake, Rattle and Roll eNews is circulated exclusively to test engineers and managers involved in vibration test and hopes to bring you some useful technical snippets gleaned from around the world and from around the vibration test industry. We always look forward to your inputs, please send us your views to mpi.news@mpiuk.co.uk

W E L C O M E to more **SHAKE, RATTLE & ROLL** the periodic
 environmental vibration technical review presented by m+p
 international - the shaker controller system specialists.

 This email is circulated exclusively to test engineers and
 managers involved in vibration test and hopes to bring you some
 useful technical snippets gleaned from around the world and other
 information gathered from around the UK test industry.

 For the latter we rely on your inputs, so if you have anything
 you would like to us to feature such as your favourite vibration
 related web site, technical articles, specialised test
 capabilities on offer, job opportunities etc please let us know at
 mailto:mpi.news@mpiuk.co.uk

 In this edition:
 1. m+p launch high performance satellite test system.
 2. SEE Workshop provokes enthusiastic discussion.
 3. Need a Test House?
 4. Units conversion calculator - freeware download.
 5. New web site resource for environmental test engineers.
 6. Back issues - topics you may have missed in previous editions.

 1. m+p launch high performance satellite test system.
 =====================================================
 Tens of millions of pound satellite testing is a demanding
 application and with just one chance to run the test and collect
 the data you do not take chances. The latest VibExec vibration
 controller system is powered by a new DSP engine that provides a
 proven 96 control channel capability with real time performance.

 Further details can be read at
 http://www.mpiuk.co.uk/press_release_vibexec.htm

 There is also an article by JPL on the Deep Space Probe
 testing at
 http://www.mpiuk.co.uk/pdf/jpl_deep_space_probe.pdf

 2. SEE Workshop provokes enthusiastic discussion.
 =====================================================
 The SEE workshop last month in Stevenage was a great success
 as evidenced by the large attendance and the degree of
 enthusiastic discussion that took place!

 The topics revolved around developing test programs using
 the "Maximum Response Spectra" (MRS) for maximum stress
 damage assessment and "Fatigue Damage Spectrum" (FDS) for
 cumulative damage assessment. The ultimate goals being to
 combine multiple in-service environments into a representative
 and efficient single lab test specification.

 Heavily utilised in military test programs in France over
 the last couple of decades these techniques would seem to
 offer a route to lower cost testing in both military and
 automotive applications. Thus far they seem to be have
 been much under-utilised this side of the channel but with
 todays PC power should they be re-visited?

 The session papers are available from the SEE
 http://www.environmental.org.uk/default.htm

 3. Need a Test House?
 =====================
 Another useful web resource is the following directory dedicated
 to Test and Calibration labs. Although broad it is very well
 organised so finding someone to help with that oddball test
 should be easy.

 There are many vibration test labs that I know are not
 included here (TUV - where are you?) and I'd be happy to
 offer my own suggestions if you can't find what you need.

 See http://www.ioi.co.uk/test/index1.htm

 4. Units conversion calculator - freeware download
 ==================================================
 Although I've been using this neat little units
 conversion calculator for some time I've just come across
 it's source. It has a large number of standard conversions
 built-in and you can add your own favourites.

 See http://www.joshmadison.com/software/convert/

 5. New web site resource for environmental test engineers.
 ==================================================
 The m+p web site has recently been much enhanced with many
 additional resource pages covering products, applications,
 useful links, news letters etc.

 As my USA colleagues would say "check it out" at
 www.mpiuk.co.uk

 Feedback very welcome to mailto:webmaster@mpiuk.co.uk

 6. Back issues - Please mailto:mpi.news@mpiuk.co.uk for an email
 copy of any topic of interest from this or previous mpi-news
 editions.
 a) Downloadable test standards
 b) Shock and Vibration Q&A forum
 c) Vibration software programs
 d) m+p join forces to make The Alliance work harder for you.
 e) Upcoming SEE Workshop and exhibition.
 f) Specialist vibration forum - answers questions.
 g) Web search engines for engineering topics.
 h) Useful engineering directories.

 Thanks for looking through this short newsletter and we look
 forward to your inputs. Also please check out our web site at
