W E L C O M E back to **SHAKE,
RATTLE & ROLL** the periodic
environmental vibration technical review presented by m+p
international - the shaker controller system specialists.
This email is circulated exclusively to test engineers and
managers involved in vibration test and hopes to bring you some
useful technical snippets gleaned from around the world and other
information gathered from around the UK test industry.
For the latter we rely on your inputs, so if you have anything
you would like to us to feature such as your favourite vibration
related web site, technical articles, specialised test
capabilities on offer, job opportunities etc please let us know at
mailto:mpi.news@mpiuk.co.uk
In this edition:
1. m+p join forces to make The Alliance work harder for you.
2. Upcoming SEE Workshop and exhibition.
3. Specialist vibration forum - answers questions.
4. Web search engines for engineering topics.
5. Useful engineering directories.
6. Back issues - topics you may have missed in previous editions.
1. m+p join forces to make The Alliance work harder for you.
==============================================
m+p international, OROS and M&M Corp have joined the Modal
Shop, Larson Davis, Gras, Bruel Bertrand & Johnson Acoustics and
Bruel Acoustics in a group known as the Acoustic Alliance. The
scope of the original group is now expanded with very powerful
vibration control, measurement and analysis capability. These
further enhance the groups ability to provide complete, one stop
shop, application solutions and support to global customers. In
sharing future technological vision the individual specialist
companies will be ideally placed to provide even greater product
innovation to increase our customers performance, both personally
and organisationally.
For further details see
http://www.mpide.de/_e/frames/texte/t_thealliance.htm
or mailto:sales.uk@mpihome.com for an email copy.
2. Upcoming SEE Workshop and exhibition
=================================
Firstly many thanks to all the visitors to the EIS exhibition in
Gaydon last
month. Our stand was a great success thanks to you.
Rather than its annual conference this year the SEE is to run two
workshops with adjoining tabletop exhibitions. The first is on
Tuesday 15th May in Stevenage entitled "Future vibration & shock
testing - a computer based methodology?". Contact the SEE for
details and tickets on 01763 271209 or
mailto:see@owles.demon.co.uk
3. Specialist vibration forum - answers questions.
=====================================
Following on from the sites identified last time another very good
engineering forum can be found at
http://www.eng-tips.com/ and it's specialist vibration forum at
http://www.eng-tips.com/gthreadminder.cfm/lev2/16/lev3/58/pid/384
Since I know many of you don't have direct access to the Internet I
have attached a couple of recent examples for your interest. There
are typically a handful of new topics daily and responses to new
postings always quickly follow.
Also see the attached information on the benefits of signing up to
this forum and as its sales pitch suggests "while it's free".
4. Web search engines for engineering topics.
===================================
Someone asked the other day about specialist search engines.
There are so many search engines these days that what we need is
a search engine for them (any suggestions?). However the search
engine I would recommend is www.google.com Although this is a
general search site it does not have all of the "baggage", ie
adverts etc often found on these sites and it provides the most
sensible results on technical topics that you are likely to get. It
was
developed by a couple of Stanford University PhD's and its results
suggest they are like-minded souls. Give it a try with "shaker
controller".
5. Useful engineering directories.
=========================
While on the topic of finding information there are many directories
around but a couple you may like to book mark are:
http://www.applegate.co.uk/ a good and well organised list of UK
suppliers and
http://www.eevl.ac.uk/ a rambling but comprehensive "virtual library"
of everything related to engineering.
More on this topic next time.
6. Back issues - Please mailto:sales.uk@mpihome.com for an email
copy of any topic of interest from previous mpi-news editions.
a) Downloadable test standards
b) Shock and Vibration Q&A forum
c) Vibration software programs
d) ESTECH 2001
Thanks for looking through this short newsletter and we look
forward to your inputs. Also please check out our web site at
www.mpiuk.co.uk or contact me, Richard Lax on 01252 718822, if
there is anything we can do for you.
If you found this at all useful please forward it to fellow test
engineers both inside and outside your company asking them to
subscribe directly. Please also send us your comments.
