Shake, rattle and roll
News letter back issues - number 15

Shake, Rattle and Roll eNews is circulated exclusively to test engineers and managers involved in vibration test and hopes to bring you some useful technical snippets gleaned from around the world and from around the vibration test industry. We always look forward to your inputs, please send us your views to mpi.news@mpiuk.co.uk

Shake Rattle and Roll ............ (To see this email in all its animated and colour glory please set your email to html)

Welcome to our latest newsletter about the Vibration & Environmental test world in addition to the latest information from m+p international.

Another phenomenal month and more info to pass on.

You did it again - thank you!!!!................

AMAZINGLY October was an even better month than September.  We thought the orders you gave us in September were great, yet October set even higher records, 38% higher than September, taking the UK sales to the highest ever level.  Of course we want this to continue, lets get more of those orders out before the end of the year, anything we can do to help you - please let us know.
If you want to see why our equipment is in high demand please contact us for a demonstration or to discuss how we can meet your requirements for vibration analysis, vibration control, temperature control, Roadload editing and control or in any of the other environmental test areas we cover.
For your own demonstration or evaluation system please contact me on sales.uk@mpihome.com or email sales.uk@mpihome.com

Our new forum...............

Once again m+p move forward for others to follow.

Visit our website and look through our new Vibration test and analysis forum.  Register and post your questions or comments about the vibration test world or m+p in particular.

Technical Titbits......................

Just imagine what other animated gifs I could have used for this new section!!!!

This section is to become a new feature of our Shake Rattle and Roll newsletter.  Every month we will be picking one subject within vibration & environmental testing that we believe is worthy of some further insight.  We get many comments from engineers, involved in testing, asking where they can get further information about, vibration testing basics, measurement uncertainty, modal analysis, the differences between Sine and Random vibration.  To some these may seem simple but to others they are complete mysteries.

This section will hopefully go some way to assisting those who want information from basics to details.  Of course feedback from all those testing on a day to day basis would help. What would you like to see here? Ever wondered what you were actually doing when you press that go button? ask us to explain and we will do what we can.

This months selection is Measurement Uncertainty.  A topic that many people have skirted round and one that few people fully get to grips with, we have found several good sources of information on this one and we have also set up a spreadsheet to assist in your calculations.

The UKAS website has some interesting pointers at http://www.ukas.com/new_docs/technical-uncertain.htm

The National Physical Laboratory also has a beginners guide to measurement uncertainty at http://www.npl.co.uk/npl/publications/good_practice/uncert/

Those people who enjoy a challenge may like to visit the NIST website and view their thoughts http://www.physics.nist.gov/cuu/Uncertainty/

Our own spreadsheet that will assist in quantifying your measurement uncertainty is available as a download at our website www.mpiuk.co.uk/techtips.htm

Last one, a detailed and lengthy pdf file with good info if you have time to spare http://www.a2la2.net/guidance/est_mu_testing.pdf

PLEASE send me your requests or ideas about subject matter we may cover in this section, contact me at sales.uk@mpihome.com with 'Technical Titbits' in the subject line.

Seminar on MODAL Analysis and Test Simulation...........

Our primary advertising for this event will start in November, book early to ensure you don't miss out on your place.

m+p international are holding a one day seminar on January 22, 2003, the two main topics of this seminar are Signal acquisition & Modal analysis and Laboratory Test Simulation.  It is being held at Loughborough University's new Wolfson School facility and will include a buffet lunch and refreshments.

The seminar will move from the basic techniques and theories through practical demonstrations and discussion about suggested test approaches for both MODAL analysis and Simulation.

We have engineers and academics from the UK, Belgium and Germany ready to provide an informative and interactive day's presentations.

Aimed at engineers who are involved in either one or both of these fields at any level or at those who have a new requirement to move into one of these areas.

The cost of the day will be £95 and this includes lunch, refreshments and full course notes. Payment with booking!!

An ideal opportunity to access a wealth of knowledge from those who know the maths and others who have years of practical test experience and indeed those who know both !!

The places for this seminar are limited, please book now to ensure you do not miss out on a unique opportunity.  For more details or to book your place please contact Neill Ovenden on 01252 718822 or visit www.mpiuk.co.uk/seminar
